Sunday rolled around and I basically sulked in front of the telly the whole day. I woke up groggily but a charming movie kept me up while channel surfing, ' Little Manhattan' on Star Movies. It was about young love in the Big Apple. Small fry kid falls for his karate-mate crush and expresses his love through the cutest of things like a stroll in Central Park, holding hands, and stolen kisses. It was wonderful seeing how a 10 and 11 year old can have something beautiful and so seemingly mature as love. Film Rating: Hours wasted on watching pool later, and I was in for a treat as I caught 3 freakin' movies on TV before I slept. First, I re-watched ' Star Wars : A New Hope' on Star Movies and it's still more awesome than any of the prequels despite the dated effects. Harrison Ford out-acted the whole Episode 1-3 cast by himself. I noticed some of the changes they made on the special edition that I got from a site, such as: Han speaks to a fully CGI-Jabba the Hutt and not some lame fat guy (good)- Han shot Greedo and Lucas made it seem Greedo fired first (lame)
- Han and Chewie chase a bunch of Stormtroopers down a hallway only to run into a room full of 'troopers instead of the original group of 'troopers simply realizing 'why the hell are we running away' and chase Han and Chewie instead (lame)
- Stormtrooper bumps his head (hard) going into a room. They say they even put a bloopery 'thud' in there, but I couldn't hear it. Still, I'm glad it's in.... (good)
- Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi have the absolute lamest old fogie lightsaber duel of all time (still lame)
Oh, and yes, I know that shot of Leia's metal bikini is from Return of the Jedi. There's never an excuse needed for gratuitous female bikini shots! Especially considering how un-hot Carrie Fisher is now, haha. Film Rating: Anyway, after my nostalgia trip, I was about to hit the sack when 2 movies I was interested in simultaneously aired: 'Pleasantville' on 2nd Avenue and 'Lady in the Water' on HBO. The latter I've only seen half of so I finally seized the chance to finish it. I remember watching Pleasantville a long time ago as a wee kid and it still has that same charm as before. Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon proved they were future stars, and lo behold, they did become just that. Being stuck in a cookie-cutter world of black and white and adding the color and humanity to it was wonderful. It's 'Back to the Future' meets 'The Truman Show' but with more visual panaché. In fact, now that I've actually seen post-production work first-hand in my job, I can appreciate what must've been a mind-blowing roto work of 'cutting out' the colored objects / people amidst the B&W environment FRAME by grueling FRAME. A wonderfully crafted and beautiful pic from near a decade ago. Plus, I still enjoy Fiona Apple's version of 'Across the Universe' to this day. Film Rating: Now, amidst the channel-flipping, Lady in the Water was actually the movie I was more focused on. I have no idea what the general consensus on the flick is, but I don't care, I liked it. The slow pacing, the colorful characters, the fine acting by Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas Howard... It's all good. The twist isn't really in the end like most M. Night movies (sorry, I'm not even going to ATTEMPT to spell his last name), but it was alright for a change. I really love the unconventional camera techniques like when a character's speaking, you only see the back of their head or their feet or something, they way the eagle swooped in with the camera in the choppy water... it all really added to the atmosphere of the movie. I love how Bryce makes you fall in love and care about protecting Story. Oh, and there's a Micah Sanders spotting here as the interpreter to boot! And Freddie Rodriguez as a throw-away moron who works out only the right side of his body! All of the above made me forgive that damn Shyamalan (egad, I've spelled it!) hogging up screentime with his (significant) supporting role and just being and indulgent prick, haha. Film Rating: Which reminds me, I really have to catch his 'other' Bruce Willis movie, 'Unbreakable'. It's got Sam Jackson and it's about comics. Why the heck haven't I seen this movie yet?! Anyway, it's getting pretty long now... 'till next time kiddos.
 | I liked Unbreakable, it was a good movie, with the typical twist in the end... haha =) You should watch it!!! I, on the other hand, should watch Lady in the Water! hehe. |
 | haha, vice versa pala tayo. i'll definitely catch 'unbreakable' when i can. but when ye' catch 'lady'... beware the SHYAMALAN!!! bwahaha |
 | I've watched all these movies except Little Manhattan. Should find it to watch. |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 12, '07 haha, unlike the person above me, i've watched none of these movies except little manhattan, which i love love love love loved.
i love when the boy just freaking cries his heart out after talking to the girl on the phone. it was just... so sincere. lol. |
 | yeah, c'mon who here hasn't watched star wars raise their hand? oh, wait there's a loser from hawaii who hasn't (i kid lyks!)! go go, it's nothing that'll blow your mind, but it's just something very simple and i'm sure we all can relate to. who hasn't had a first love right (put your hand down lyks! joke ulit! haha)? |
 | haha baliktad ka talaga lagi no? biro lang! damn, i just really cannot believe you haven't freaking watched FREAKING STAR WARS. what's WRONG with you WOMAN!? kidding aside. i'm happy i woke up and chanced upon that wonderful little movie. that scene was sincere. although i was never that sappy at that age, harhar. i like the part where they stroll across manhattan on the scooter. such a simple moment that i wish i could produce, and these kids seem to so effortlessly. granted, it is a movie, but still, you can't help but admire love at it's simplest, w/o all the complicated bs it entails when yer older. |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 12, '07 maybe, just maybe i havent watched star wars because im not as ANCIENT as you are. damn, what is WRONG with you OLD PEOPLE. lol. (i kid, ryds!) nyahaha. (thought i'd go with your format. if you can get away with it, i should be able to as well).
you're underestimating love, porket it's between two kids, lol. all love has its bs. remember. they had to be separated for SIX WEEKS! hahaha. |
 | ryderaquino wrote on Nov 12, '07, edited on Nov 12, '07 whatha?! OLD?! star wars is a classic damnit! classics are timeless. hahaha.
true true, i guess even their young love had it's complications towards the end. it's pretty bittersweet as they didn't really hook up, but in a way what they had was special and will be in their hearts forever. oh fuck that was sappy. anyway, have you read 'the missing piece' by shel silverstein? it's a beautiful children's story that actually transcends unto adult relationships without losing it's simple innocence and spirit. damn, i'm gunna scour the link to the online version just in case... |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 12, '07 i havent but based on what you've told me alone, i think i'd love it. enge kopya, hahaha. |
 | Overall I like "Lady in The Water" more than "Unbreakable"... but "Unbreakable" is a very different film, so it's not really fair to compare them. It's so original and totally amazing in its own right. Neither one is as perfect as "The Village" though... that is hands down M. Knight's best film. People think nothing beats "The Sixth Sense" and they give "The Village" lots of criticism involving the "monster" but if you haven't seen it, I'll just say the twist at the end is his best twist ever--not to mention the acting, the directing, the cinematography, everything is just so so perfect! |
 | yeah, my sunday was also spent like so. a film trifecta is always good. |
 | really? hmm. i guess 6th sense gets the overwhelming vote cuz' it's what put him on the map and started the whole 'twist' ending thing. but hey, if you say 'village' is m. night's 'empire strikes back', you're definitely entitled to it! come to think of it, i've seen all his work now except 'unbreakable'! damn, i really have to catch it! |
 | ok, i'm off to to scour my old urls... i'll update you... hmm, could you pm my your ym? or postal address maybe? haha |
 | ryderaquino wrote on Nov 12, '07, edited on Nov 12, '07 parallel fates from across the earth. so what was your film trifecta? nothing too raunchy like 'ron jeremy and peter north greatest hits' or a maria ozawa marathon now darthie?
update: empire strikes back on star movies as i type! crap, i'm such a geek. |
 | i'll post about it at break time 9:30am. it's 7:23 still. |
 | I was one of those who got so excited about Lady in the Water because of the trailer. I thought she was a mermaid, i like mermaids but she wasn't ahahaha :) it's a nice and a bit weird movie that i enjoyed. Weekends are for movies :) |
 | hey lace! yeah, i remember the trailer being so mysterious. the movie was like that too, letting you fill in gaps and interpret things for yourself.
weekends are indeed for movies and fun! i wanna see 3d nekkid angelina already! hahaha |
 | don't wank on pixels my friend. lollers. |
 | i agree Lady in the water was a vanity project with a convoluted story line. the story would have been good if it had been polished a little more |
 | true true. you know your movie is indulgent when you write, direct, and star in it... but hey, clint eastwood does that all the time too doesn't he? haha. true, the story did need some work, but the real 'Story' endeared herself so much i still ended up liking the flick. |
 | i was just a darthlet when i fell in love with fiona apple and reese witherspoon, why i said that, i don't know. |
 | hahaha, fine choices there. you said that because the image of fiona apple in 'criminal' just popped into your head and ignited your fetish for anorexic chicks in panties, lolz.
|
 | eww. i don't like thin chicks with sharp knees, lol, mark romanek likes those images in his work, the hip underfed youth. |
 | oh, he must love the olsen twins and nicole ritchie then? haha |
 | he might, lollers. the twin fuglies and paris hilton's discarded handbag. |
 | i actually watched the olsen's while they were still adorably mischievous on 'full house'. but your probably too young to have caught that no? |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 21, '07 tell me you caught the reruns. lol. |
 | i don't really know since i was a kid and how the hell was i supposed to know if i had just watched the 'latest' episode of 'i love lucy' or something.
but if you were trying to make an inderect insult at my age, well... it worked! hmpf! i'm so insulted. i'm gunna go all man-bitch on yer arse woman! haha |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 21, '07 haha, awww. c'mon lighten up. you know i meant that in a good way! hahaha. |
 | nyahahaha, that sounded familiar. you, darthie, and i seem to be omnipresent each other's posts. naguguluhan na ko minsan kasi ang lalayo na ng mga messages from the original posts! hahaha. good fun though...^_^ |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 21, '07 mhmm. good time-killer, huh. specially if you're at work. lol. |
 | oh definitely. this site is my ultimate unproductivity pill. hahaha. back to work. u, back to ur studies! lolz |
 | omg, the mullet on stamos! |
 | so you do know about it! haha. bob sagat was so tame back then. they should do an effin 'full house' reunion movie and let 'em cut loose with sex, drugs, and profanity. that would be MONEY! it's not like the cast is that busy with their projects anyway. hollywood, make it happen! |
 | reruns, i think they have reruns still on the portuguese channel. the olsen twins were as cute as baby trolls. |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 21, '07 i know... how they got to be so err.. different, now, i don't know. lol. |
 | they went from trolly to skanky, that's what happened. |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 21, '07 i said how. not what. lol. |
 | how? overcompensating they are. lol. |
 | ryderaquino wrote on Nov 21, '07, edited on Nov 21, '07 haha, they were kinda trolley back then! but i guess it's a rule for child stars to grow up all effed up, like caulkin, lohan, etc. |
 | stop. you're scaring me.
they look like emaciated puff fishes. |
 | ryderaquino wrote on Nov 21, '07, edited on Nov 21, '07 oh how cruel of you, haha. better emaciated puffers than treasure trolls! |
 | why were those things popular? |
 | True, Story (Bryce Dallas Howard) was one of the redeeming characters in the movie |
 | @ darth: beats me. the psychadelic hair? i dunno, i always wanted to do violent things to it. hmmm... gives me an idea for my dog's latest chew toy...
@ rocky: yup, i fell in love with her there. she's so fragile and naive, and unintentionally malambing... it made me feel i would want to protect her from the horribly CGI grass monster like paul giamatti did. |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 21, '07 i liked stroking their hair. |
 | ok i'll admit the hair thing was fun. but man, androgyny freaks me out...0_o |
 | have you seen manderlay? nude bryce there. hahahahaha |
 | sighs wrote on Nov 22, '07 what, anong androgynous. they're guys. there's no way those things can be girls. |
 | @ darthie: nope, never heard of it! but now it's worth checkin' out! haha
@ lyka: what?! they have no reproductive organs! they have long braidable hair! they look like the olsen twins! if anything, they're leaning towards girls! hahaha |
 | not a lars von trier movie fan? it's worth it, here clickie-clickie for some nudie brycie. lollers. |
 | sorry, i'm not a movie snob! hahaha.
and HOLY GAWD on the pic. red bush alert! nyahahaha |
 | and so am i, lollers. you should see my bollywood collection.
uhm, that was embarrassing.
hehehe. |
 | haha, i actually enjoy glimpses of bollywood when i eat at indian restos here. and what was embarassing? red bush or you inability to html shit properly? hahahaha |
 | having bollywood stuff on my shelves, was kinda embarrassed about that, a little bit. lollers. what, you go to dine & entertainment restos? you watch what's on your plate not the screen, your chicken tika masala might have lizard tails, you know.
/not an html guy |
 | haha, there's an indian resto here in makati that plays (and sells!) bollywood dvds. just some entertainment before the food arrives i guess. mmm... lizard tails....
oh, and it's ok, html is a chore for me too and i always screw up... don't cry...hahahaha |
 | pero Hyper-Titillated-Male-Libido marami ka, di ba? lollers |
 | nyahahaha, i'll never look at html the same way again. lolz |
 | buti nga hindi Huge-Titi-Male-Lover eh. nyahahahah.
/hurls |
 | it's official: this is my site's ALL-TIME LOW. what a momentous occasion! thanks again man. nyahah |
 | can't this go any lower? lollers. |
 | fire away my friend, what's there to lose.
Hissy-Transexual-Man-Licker |
 | we could lose our manliness if we go on.
lollers. |
 | oh who cares, i lost some of mine when i entered that thing called a 'relationship' (kidding junnis! please don't kill me, haha).
Happy-To-Make-Lecture ka na dapat darthie! tama na, priorities man, priorities! nyahahaha |
