Just watched the Golden Compass and it was fun! I enjoyed it more than Stardust, so best fantasy film of the year for me. Anyway, have you ever wondered what your Dæmon would be if you lived in Lyra's world? Just click here to find out! Here's mine:
Her name is Brienne, a silver Lynx who's assertive, spontaneous, clever, shy, and solitary. Not bad if I say so myself, but I personally would've wanted a dog (since I own one) or maybe a predator just out of coolness. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with mine... wish it was real though, haha. What do you guys think? You actually have the power to disagree or agree with my choosen Dæmon before it takes it's final form. Try it out, and share yours as well just for fun.
Everyone's making such a huge deal out of it, since it has atheist elements. Some even go ahead and say it should be avoided. >:c I'm pretty sure they removed the atheist bits, though, in the movie.
I don't think they removed any atheist bit there, since they weren't too obvious anyway, like the controversial 1st 5 mins of the movie. It's everywhere in the movie too...so it would be dumb to chop it all off
@ isabel and yas: actually, i don't see what all the fuss is about. is the anti-God message subliminal to children? was that the intention? i missed the first couple minutes of the movie nga cuz' i was in the bathroom! i had no idea the most controversial bit would be the opening narration. anyway, i think the part where nicole mentions the 'ancestors mistake' is a nod to adam and eve's original sin... so the daemons are the result of this flawed nature? ganun ba? di ko rin gets completely eh. hahahaha
that's a cool daemon! it says in the book that servants' daemons are usually dogs... so i guess having a cat means that you're more of a leader or a rebel type. remember, Lord Asriel's daemon's a leopard? (i forget.)

ah yeah, cuz' dogs are usually serve their masters and cat's are usually, um, 'pampered'. hahaha. yeah, i wanted asriel's daemon! looked like a white tiger or something, i dunno. haha. actually, i just was hoping for a golden retreiver so i could pretend my dog is my daemon... and maybe he'd talk. hahahaha. anyway, go try it! post your daemon as well!
watch! watch! i think the aethiest stuff isn't strong at all if any. it's fun, has an awesome cast (Ian McKellan is the giant polar bear, Iorek!!!), great visuals, and nicole kidman AND eva green.... basta watch na! haha! oh, and you mentioned the book.. have you read it? i'd love to hear about the changes and such when u see the movie.
i think the aethiest stuff isn't strong at all if any.
well, the first book hardly had any of the atheist/anti-religion things anyway. the second and third book have most of it. loved the books, but i got really disturbed by the second book that it took me months before i finished the trilogy.
the anti-religion stuff doesn't really bother me. but the anti-God stuff. now that's serious. considering the books are really brilliantly written and could be dangerous if one just takes it all in. but if you're not scared and would like something to think about, i would recommend you read the books. haha.

ohhh i see. da vinci code was like that... contradicting church teachings and stuff. i'm curious how the books and subsequent movies will portray the anti-God philosophy. personally, i think even w/o religion, there is a Supreme Being... a first mover according to my ole philosophical anthropology class and in St. Thomas Aquiinas' Summa Theologica. i think the reason why there are so many religions is just everyone has a different way of worshiping Him if they choose to at all. the books have me curious now! sige, i'll see if my budget can support a purchase in the near future, hehe.
from what i hear, it like the answer to C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. The author was quoted saying he wanted to kill God in the mind of the children. I havent seen the movie nor have i read the book. I'm thinking the the director and producers may have took out the atheist part of it, but what bothers me is the sudden increase of sales of the books here in the US.
The author is victimizing unaware parents and children.
anti-God propaganda guised in a children's book eh? surely this is the work of eviiiiil if it holds true! maybe it's just challenging the existence of God leading everyone to strengthen their faith. or not. what do i know, haven't read 'em either. hahaha
it's conspiracy theorists like that who think they know what the author's intentions were, or if there were any at all to begin with. the writer is laughing his way to the bank now.
