A murder mystery in 5 minutes? That's what up-and-coming Cebuano Director / Screenwriter Paolo Dy has accomplished with QWERTY, us Pinoy's top bet in the Spielberg-Burnett film reality show On The Lot - the winner gets a $1 million development deal with Dreamworks SKG.
Here's the official synopsis from On The Lot:
A mentally-afflicted young man is accused of murdering his longtime benefactor. The truth of what really happened lies in his mad obsession with his supposed victim's old typewriter, on which he types relentlessly, day and night.
Now, on to the review - great cinematography, clever story, and a very gritty look and feel makes QWERTY a very entertaining 5-minute masterpiece (even better than the usual Tagalog full-length movie starring who knows who). I don't want to give the story away, but the twist in the ending is very beautiful and fitting of the story. No CGI was used in the shot. The idea is similar to Japan's award winning commercial "Whale" though, so ad junkies probably know what I'm talking about. But parallel concepts aside, QWERTY is a high-quality, well-acted short film that definitely deserves our support!
I would've uploaded the movie in my videos page, but it's better if you guys view it on the On The Lot website. you see, the more views and reviews the movie gets on the site, the better the changes of it and Paolo getting into the final 16 of the show (which debuts in May), so start clicking and support our kabayan!
Face it, wouldn't it rule if an Asian, nay, PINOY got into the finals of this show?
